나이드신 한 여자분이 지진과 수나미로 라쿠젠타카다 마을의 폐허에서 울부짖는 모습에서 그들의 고통이 느껴집니다.
세상의 모든 고통에게.....
하루 지났다고
어찌 어제의 일이라 하겠어요.
여러날 지났다고
어찌 지난 일이라 하겠으며,
시간이 흘렀다고
어찌 옛일이라 하겠습니까?
그런데도 남의 일이라 너무 쉽게 잊었고
나의 일이 아니라며 기억조차 희미합니다.
부끄럽습니다
그리고 미안합니다.
10일 전에 일본에서 일어난 대지진의 소식을 연일 티비와 신문에서 접하면서
한주 내내 뒤숭숭하게 지냈습니다.
상상을 초월한 엄청한 인명과 재산 그리고 자연의 피해를 보면서도
만물의 영장인 우리 인간들조차 속수무책으로 만들어 놓은
자연의 거대한 위력을 새삼 눈으로 확인할 수 있었습니다.
지진과 수나미 뉴스를 처음 들었을 때의 충격과 놀라움이 지나자,
인간에게 주어진 최악의 재난을 당하고 있는
일본 국민들의 처참한 모습이 눈에 비추이기 시작하자
저절로 그들을 위로하고 격려하는 기도가 입으로 나왔습니다.
하지만 부끄럽게도
그 참사가 내가 아닌 그들에게 일어 났다고 안도의 숨을 내 쉬면서...
그리고 그 비극이 과거로 돌리고 쉽게 잊고 무심해 지기도 합니다.
소소한 작은 일로 쉽게 분노하고 불평하고 징징거리는 내 자신이
얼마나 많이 가지고 누리고 사는 지를
똑똑하게 다시 직시 할 수 있는 지혜와 겸손을 다시 한번 배웁니다.

한때는
우리들을 침략하고,
지배하고,
온갖 만행을 저지른 사람들이었지만,
또 그들이 지은 죄는 밉고, 용서할 수 없어도
당장 큰 고난과 슬픔에 잠긴 그들과 함께 아파하고 슬픔을 나누면서
그들을 위해서
어떤 행동이든지 아주 작은 일이라도 해야 할 의무가
우리 모두에게 있다고 생각합니다.
왜냐하면 그 모습이
양심적이고 아름다운 사람의 본연의 모습이기 때문일겁니다.
