달리는 이 작품에서 그의 환상적인 비전을 아주 섬세하고 꼼꼼하게 묘사해서
꿈을 좀 더 유형적이고 확실한 형태를 제공하고 있다.
그는 이 작품을 "손으로 꿈을 그린 사진"이라고 불렀는데,
단단한 물체를 축 늘어진 상태로 변경시키고,
시간은 휘었고, 금속 물질은 개미를 끌어들이고 있다.

On Kawara
심플하게 한 색상으로 날짜를 그린 위의 작품들은
카와라가 1960년대 중반에 뉴욕에 살 때에 Today라는 주제로
그린 연작 작품들로 거의 무한계적으로 다양하게 제작할 수 있는 가능성이 있다.
그래서 그는 초반부터 이 연작들의 캔버스의 사이즈는 아홉 개의 특정된 크기로,
배경은 빨강, 파랑, 그리고 짙은 회색으로 한정지어서 제작했다.
그는 여러 나라로 자주 여행을 다니면서,
여행지의 모습과 풍습을 기록한 후, 그날의 날짜를 적었다.
가장 중요한 것은 이 작품들은 바로 그날 안에 완성하는 것이 관건인데,
그렇지 못하면, 그 작품을 없앴다.
각 작품은 별 특별한 것이 없는 심플하면서 작은 정보가 담겼지만,
이 작품들이 모여서 시간의 광대함, 가차없이 흐르는 시간
그리고 그 시간에 일어난 역사를 묘사해 준다.
카와라는 방문지에서 당일 발행된 신문을 오려서
작품을 위해서 특별히 제작된 박스에 저장해서
그림만 감상할 수도 있고, 저장해 둔 신문과 함께 감상할 수도 있다.

고르키는 '소치에 소재한 정원'이라는 제목으로 제 작품을 그렸다.
그중 제일 먼저 그린 이 작품은 고르키가 태어난 아르메니아의 기억을
추상적으로 표현한 작품이다.
모마가 이 작품을 1942년에 구매했을 때 그는
"아버지는 정원을 소유했는데, 그곳에서는 과일을 더 이상 열리지 않는
몇몇의 사과나무들이 있었고, 땅에는 셀 수 없이 많은 야생 당근들이 자라고 있었으며,
호저들이 만든 둥지들이 널렸었다"라고 회고했다.
같은 시대에 활동하던 미술가들처럼 고르키는 작품 속에 신비한 대상을 탐구해서
그 대상들을 그의 개인적인 삶과 경험을 작품 속에 반영시켰다.
