I am thankful for....

 

 

          1000년이 넘는 고즈넉한 좁은 골목길 (2007년 7월)  Toledo, Spain 에서.....

 

I AM THANKFUL FOR......

I am thankful for the wife who says, "Hot dogs for supper"
Because she is home with me, not someone else.

I am thankful for the husband who is on the sofa

being a couch potato,
Because he is home with me and not out at the bars.

I am thankful for the teenager who is complaining

about doing dishes,
Because she is at home and not out on the streets.

I am thankful for the taxes I pay,
Because it means I am employed.

I am thankful for the mess to clean after a party,
Because it means I have been surrounded by friends.

I am thankful for the clothes that fit a little too snug,
Because it means I have enough to eat.

I am thankful for my shadow that watches me work,
Because it means I am out in the sunshine.

I am thankful for a lawn to mow, windows to clean

and gutters to fix,
Because it means I have a home.

I am thankful for the complaining I hear about the government,
Because it means we have freedom of speech.

I am thankful for the parking spot I find

at the far end of the parking lot,
Because it means I am able to walk and I have been blessed

with transportation.

I am thankful for my huge heating bill,
Because it means I am warm.

I am thankful for the pile of laundry and ironing,
Because it means I have clothes to wear.

I am thankful for weariness and aching muscles

at the end of the day,
Because it means I have been able to work.

I am thankful for the alarm that rings early in the morning hours,
Because it means I am alive.

“오늘 저녁은 핫도그다~”라고 하는 아내에게 감사해요.
그건 아내가 다른 사람과 있지 않고 나와 함께 있다는 말이니까요.

소파에 앉아서 티비를 보며 감자칩을 먹어대는
뚱땡이 남편에게 감사해요.
그건 술먹으러 안나가고 나와 함께 집에 있다는 말이니까요.

설거지 하랜다고 투덜대는 십대 청소년 보석에게 감사해요.
그건 바깥에 나돌아다니지 않고 집에 있다는 말이니까요.

세금을 내는 거에 감사해요.
그건 내게 직업이 있다는 말이니까요.

파티 후에 엉망이 된 집을 청소하는 거에 감사해요.
그건 내가 친구들에 둘러싸여 있었다는 말이니까요.

헐렁헐렁한 옷에도 감사해요.
그건 아직 좀 더 먹어도 된다는 말이니까요.
너무 쫌 꽉끼는 옷에도 감사해요.
그건 내게 먹을 게 충분하다는 말이니까요.

내가 바깥에서 일하는 걸 지켜보는 내 그림자에게 감사해요.
그건 내가 햇볕을 받고 있다는 말이니까요.

잔디도 깎아야하고, 창문도 닦아야하고,
처마 홈통도 고쳐야 하는 걸 감사해요.
그건 내게 집이 있다는 말이니까요.

정부에 대한 불평들을 듣는 것에 감사해요.
그건 언론의 자유가 있다는 말이니까요.

주차장 끄트머리에 겨우 찾은 자리에 감사해요.
그건 내가 걸을 수 있고 또 내게 차가 있다는 축복이니까요.

엄청 나온 난방비 고지서에 감사해요.
그건 내가 추위에 떨지 않고 산다는 말이니까요.

산더미같이 싸인 빨래거리와 다리미질거리에 감사해요.
그건 내게 입을 옷이 있다는 말이니까요.

하루가 저물 때 기진맥진한 몸과 쑤시는 삭신에 감사해요.
그건 내가 일을 할 수 있었다는 말이니까요.

꼭두새벽에 울리는 자명종 소리에 감사해요.
그건 내가 살아있다는 말이니까요.
