A beautiful baby beluga whale was born.... (고래 아가가 태어났어요)

 캐나다 밴쿠버에 있는 수족관에서 아가 벨루가 고래(Beluga Whale)가 지난 6월 10일에 태어났습니다.

어미 고래는 20살이며 이름은 오로라인데 13살 된 첫 딸 고래 "퀼라"를 나은후에 이번이 두번재입니다.

그리고 퀼라가 낳은 한살된 티카도 있어서 오로라는 할머니 고래이기도 합니다.

아가 고래의 아빠는 "이마크"인데 이 수족관의 유일한 숫놈입니다.

 

며칠 전에는 새끼 거위들에게 거위 부모의 헌신적인 사랑과 관심을 보면서 참 신통했는데

이번에는 벨루가 고래 엄마의 감동적인 모습에

모든 생명체가 이렇게 지구상에 지탱해 온 이유의 큰 몫이

우리 모두의 대단하고 희생적인 어머니가 계시기에 가능함을 다시 한번 실감합니다.

(물론 든든한 아빠도 한 몫 하시기에...)

 

 

 Aurora’s calf was sired by Imaq, the sole male beluga whale at the aquarium. It was her second calf. She has a daughter Qila, 13 and a granddaughter Tiqa, 1. All are based at the aquarium.

세시간의 진통끝에 새끼 고래가 드디어 나온다...

It’s a girl, probably. The aquarium’s veterinary team is 90 per cent certain the calf is female but it can be up to 6 months before gender determination becomes certain.

이번에 태어난 아가는 수의사들에 의하면 아마 암놈으로 추정된다. 

하지만 6개월 후에야만 확실하게 알 수 있다.

 

 

 Immediately after her birth, the calf swam to the surface of the water for her first breaths. Aurora’s natural maternal instincts were also evident as she instinctively picked up her calf and swam continuously with her.

새끼 고래는 태어나자마자 바로 수면 위로 떠서 처음으로 혼자 숨을 들여 마셨다.

엄마 오로라는 본능적으로 새끼를 들어 올려주고 계속 새끼 바로 옆에서 수영을 했다.
