2011년 2월 11일 아침에  54회 월드 프레스 사진 대회에서 

2주동안 권위있는 심사위원들이 5691명의 사진기자들이 출품한 108059 사진들 중에서

9 카테고리 안에서 56장의 수상작을 발효했고,

남아공 출신의 사진기자인 죠디 비버씨가 아프가니스탄의 수도인 카불에서 

 남편의 집에서 도망을 한 죄로 코를 베인 비비 아이셔의 얼굴을찍은 사진을

 2010년 최고의 프레스 사진으로 선정되었다.

 

On the morning of February 11, 2011, the international jury of the 54th World Press Photo Contest  named a photo by South African photographer Jodi Bieber, World Press Photo of the Year 2010. The image is a portrait of Bibi Aisha, disfigured  as punishment for fleeing her husband's house, taken in Kabul, Afghanistan. Over 5,691 photographers entered 108,059 images in the 2011 World Press Photo Contest and after the two-week judging period, 56 were named winners in nine categories. It is a prestigious contest and an honor to be named a winner. The following post shares 23 of those winning images.

World Press Photo of the Year 2010

 1. Bibi Aisha, an 18-year-old woman from Oruzgan province in Afghanistan, fled back to her family home from her husband's house, complaining of violent treatment. The Taliban arrived one night, demanding Bibi be handed over to face justice. After a Taliban commander pronounced his verdict, Bibi's brother-in-law held her down and her husband sliced off her ears and then cut off her nose. Bibi was abandoned, but later rescued by aid workers and the U.S. military. After time in a women's refuge in Kabul, she was taken to America, where she received counseling and reconstructive surgery. Bibi Aisha now lives in the United States.

아프가니스탄 출신의 18세의 비비 아이샤는 남편의 폭행과 구타를 피해서 친정으로 도망을 쳤는데

한밥중에 탈리반 조직원들이 그녀가 숨어있던 집에 와서 마땅한 벌을 받게 강제로 그녀를 납치를 해서

탈리반의 지휘관의 판결에 따라서 비비의 시동생이 그녀를 꼼짝 못하게 잡고 있는 상태로

그녀의 남편은 그녀의 두귀와 코를 도려 낸 후에 내 버려졌다.

다행히도 그녀는 미군과 봉사단원들의 도움으로 구출된 후에 카불의 난민 수용소에서 지내다가

미국으로 보내져서 카운슬링과 얼굴 복구 수줄을 받았고, 현재 미국에서 거주하고 있다.

죠디 비버작, 올해의 최고의 상을 수상했다.

내쇼살 지오그라픽 사진기자인 스티브 맥커리씨가 1984년 12월에  아프가니스탄과 경계해 있는 파키스탄에 있는 위치한

무자하딘 군대를 피해서 떠난 피난민 수용소에서 당시 12살 아프간 소녀를 카메라에 담았습니다.

당시 그녀의 이름도 모르고, 그녀가 처한 사정도 알려지지 않았지만

기억에 오래 남는 아름다우면서도 당시 난민들의 역경을 고스란히 대변 해주는 초록빛의 눈동자의 소녀의 모습은

1985년 6월 내셔날 지오그래픽 잡지 표지에 실려서, 이 무명의 소녀의 사진 하나로

당시 아프간 난민들의 스토리가 세상에 널리 알려지게 된 후로

여지껏, 최고의 사진 작품으로 꼽히고 있습니다.

2010년 한해동안 세계 각국에서 참으로 많은 일들이 일어 났음을 실감하면서

그 사건들을 현지에서 고생과 위험을 무릅쓰고 생생하게 독자들에게 전달 해 주는

사진기자들의 노고에 박수와 격려를 보냅니다.

 

한편으로 개인적으로 올해는 작년보다

약한자들의 권리와 이익을 짓밟는 사건들과

편견과 오해로 형제들과 이웃들이 서로 대립해서 싸우는 뉴스는 줄어들고 

우리의 가슴을 따뜻하게 감동을 주는 휴먼 스토리와 사건을 담은 사진들이
