1952년부터 뉴욕 타임즈는 그 해에 미국에서 출판된 모든 아동 그림책들을
세 명의 심사위원들이 돌아가면서 심사해서 베스트 책을 선정해 왔다.
그러다가 2017년부터는 뉴욕 시립 도서관과 파트너가 되어서
뉴욕 타임스/뉴욕 시립 도서관 베스트 아동 그림책을 선정하기 시작했다.
2021년 심사위원으로는 아동 서적 평론가 캐서린 홍/Catherine Hong,
뉴욕 도서관의 청소년 서적 사서 제시카 아구델로/Jessica Agudelo,
그리고 Caldecott 메달 일러스트레이션 수상자이자
다수의 일러스트레이션 서적 수상을 한 폴 젤린스키/Paul O. Zelinsky로 구성되었다.
이들은 일러스트레이션 아동 서적을 선정하는 만큼
책의 내용보다는 오로지 일러스트레이션에 중점을 두고
아래와 같이 2021년 베스트 10 서적을 선정했다.
