듀러플레 작곡의 레퀴엠-Requiem by Maurice Duruflé 합창 공연

 

 

Richard Eaton Singers 합창단의

2017-18년 시즌 첫 공연이 어제 저녁에

시내에 있는 All Saints' 성공회 대교회에서

좌석이 매진되어서 큰 교회를 그득하게 메운 청중들 앞에서 공연을 했다.

이번 공연은 11월 11일에 다가오는 Remembrance Day(현충일)를 앞두고

자국과 세계의 평화를 위해서

젊은 목숨을 바친 수많은 영혼들을 위한 무대로

1부에서 프랑스 출신 작곡가 모리스 듀러플레 작곡의

레퀴엠을 천상의 화음으로 연주해서 그들의 영원한 안식을 빌었다.

2부 무대도 비슷한 주제의 6 작품이 공연되었다.

레퀴엠은 Mass for the Dead(Missa pro defunctis)라고 불리우며

캐톨릭 교회에서 세상을 떠난 자의 영혼을 위해서 올리는 예식이기도 하고,

그 예식을 위해서 작곡된 음악을 칭하기도 한다.

레퀴엠이라는 단어는 안식을 뜻하는 라틴어 명사 requies

(영어로 rest, repose)에 단수형에서 근거하며,

예식의 시작은 '주여 영원한 안식을 주소서' 라는 뜻의

라틴어 "Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine"로 시작해서

주로 In Paradisum('천상에서')으로 끝을 맺는다.

듀러플레의 레퀴엠은 특히 중세에 불리워졌던

오래된 전통의 그레고리언 성가를 바탕으로

20세기 현대적인 화음을 가미해서 만든 걸작품이다.

개인적으로 내가 이 세상을 떠난 후에

나를 위해서 이런 아름다운 기도가 담긴 노래를 불러 준다면

편하게 저세상으로 그리고 운좋게 천상까지도 갈 수 있을 것 같은 희망이 생긴다.

Libera eas de ore leonis, ne absorbeat eas tartarus, ne cadant in obscurum. Sed signifer sanctus Michael repraesentet eas in lucem sanctam, quam olim Abrahae promisisti et semini ejus. Hostias et preces tibi, Domine, laudis offerimus. Tu suscipe pro animabus illis, quarum hodie memoriam facimus, fac eas, Domine, de morte transire ad vitam quam olim Abrahae promisisti et semini ejus. VI. Agnus Dei (주의 어린양) Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem sempiternam.	Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world: grant them eternal rest
VII. Lux aeterna (영원한 빛) Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine, cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.	May light eternal shine upon them, O Lord, with Thy saints forever, for Thou art kind. Eternal rest give to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
VIII. Libera me (저를 구해주소서) Libera me, Domine, de morte aeterna, in die illa tremenda, quando coeli movendi sunt et terra, dum veneris judicare saeculum per ignem. Tremens factus sum ego et timeo dum discussio venerit atque ventura ira, quando coeli movendi sunt et terra. Dies illa, dies irae, calamitatis et miseriae, dies magna et amara valde. May the angels receive them in Paradise, at thy coming may the martyrs receive thee and bring thee into the holy city Jerusalem.
