2022년 12월, 햇살이 짧지만  눈부신 날에...

 

THE SHORTEST DAY /동지

So the shortest day came, and the year died,

And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world

Came people singing, dancing,

To drive the dark away.

일 년 중 낮이 제일 짧은 날이 지나고, 한 해가 서서히 저물어가네요,

수세기동안 겨울이면 설국으로 변하는 지구촌 구석구석의

사람들은 신나게 노래를 부르고, 춤을 추네요.

어두움을 몰아내기 위해서.

 

They lighted candles in the winter trees;

They hung their homes with evergreen;

They burned beseeching fires all night long

To keep the year alive,

And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake

They shouted, reveling.

Through all the frosty ages you can hear them

Echoing behind us—Listen!!

All the long echoes sing the same delight,

This shortest day,

As promise wakens in the sleeping land:

They carol, feast, give thanks,

And dearly love their friends,

And hope for peace.

And so do we, here, now,

This year and every year.

2022년 12월 집 뒤

 

 

 

며칠 후면, 동토의 날인 울 동네에

낮 길이가 고작 7시간 27분으로

일 년 중 낮이 가장 짧고,

밤이 가장 긴 동지가 다가옵니다.

 

춥고 긴 겨울날이 아직 많이 남았지만,

동짓날부터는 낮의 길이가 점점 길어져서

따스한 햇살과 함께 모든 생물이 다시 태어나는

좋은 봄에 대한 희망을 일찌감치 느낄 수 있어서

위도가 높은 북반부 동네에서는

오히려 아주 반갑고 의미 있는 절기입니다.

 

그리고, 크리스마스와 새해를 기다리면서

한 해를 정리할 수 있는 좋은 이 절기가 좋습니다.
