The kings they came from out the south,
All dressed in ermine fine;
They bore Him gold and chrysoprase,
And gifts of precious wine.

The wise men came from out the east,
And they were wrapped in white;
The star that led them all the way
Did glorify the night.
The angels came from heaven high,
And they were clad with wings;
And lo, they brought a joyful song
The host of heaven sings.
The kings they knocked upon the door,
The wise men entered in,
The shepherds followed after them
To hear the song begin.
The angels sang through all the night
Until the rising sun,
But little Jesus fell asleep
Before the song was done.

크리스마스 축일은 수 천년동안
24일 크리스마스이브 자정에 미사를 드리면서
아기 예수의 탄생을 기쁘게 기념한다.
근래에 들어서는 자정 미사만이 아니라
교회마다 좀 다르지만, 신자들의 편의를 위해서
저녁 5시에서 11시 사이에 서 너 번에 걸쳐서 미사가 집전된다.
그리고 25일 크리스마스 날 낮 미사가 다시 집전된다.
올해는 예년과 달리
4주간의 대림절 기간은 3주로 짧았고,
그래서 4주째 대림절이 24일 내일
단 하루로 끝을 맺고,
주교좌성당에서는 바로 같은 날 4시 반부터
크리스마스이브 미사들이 연이어 집전된다.
이런 특수한 사정으로,
주교좌성당과 성 토마스 모어 성당에서
Cantor(성가 독창자) 봉사를 하는 나는
24일 정오 미사, 밤 9시 미사,
그리고 다음날인 25일 12시 30분 미사에서
26일 저녁미사에서
성가를 불러야 하게 되었다.
많은 행사로 정신도 없고 피곤하지만,
이 명절의 주인공을 기쁘게 맞이하는 일이
제일 중요하다는 것을 알기에
아기 예수에게 아름다운 성가를 선사해 드리고 싶다.
