2010 월드컵 축구 주제가(Wavin' Flag Song )

드디어 월드컵 축구 대회가 South Africa에서 개최되었다.

지금Tv에서 프랑스와 유루과이 경기를 보면서

정확하게 한달 전에 이미 올렸던 흥겨운 월드컵 주제가를

대회 첫 날에 다시 올립니다.

K'naan 

 

 

축구보다는 아이트 하키에 열광하는 여기 캐나다에서도

남아프리카 공화국에서 개최되는 2010년 월드컵 축구경기가

앞으로 한달이 남았다는 뉴스가 올라 오면서 드디어 관심으로 보이기 시작했다.

 

온세계의 관심이 쏠리는 이 거대한 세계의 스포츠 경기의 주제가(Coca Cola's Official Anthem)로

K'naan이라는 가수가 작곡 작사하고 직접 부른 Wavin' Flag 이라는 노래가 채택이 되었다.

 

K'naan 씨는 아프리카의 소말리아의 수도인 모가디슈에서 1978년에

문학과 음악적인 분위기에 가정에서 태어났다.

그의 본명은 Keinan Abdi Warsame로서 케이난 이름은

소말리 언어로 여행가(Traveller)라는 뜻을 지니고 있다. 

 

그가 태어날 당시 소말리아는 오랫동안의 내전으로 아주 위험하고 암울한 사회적인 상황이었다.

용케 그의 가족은 이 어려웠던 시기를 버티다가 그가 13살때 어머니, 형 그리고 여동생과 함께

이미 미국에 망명생활을 하던 아버지와 친척이 있던 뉴욕의 할렘으로 이주를 하게 되고,

곧바로 캐나다, 온타리오 주, 토론토시에 당시 소말리 이민자가 많이 몰려 사는

 Rexdale 동네에 정착을 했다.

그는 생소한 나라의 언어인 영어를 말대신 랩을 하면서 영어를 배우기 시작했다.

 

이렇게 영어를 배우기 위해서 시작한 랩 음악이

1999년에 소말리 내전 피해자들의 구제활동에 실패한 UN 기구에 대해서

항의를 하는 모임에서 그는 UN High Commissioner for Regurees 앞에서

항의하는 내용을 소말리 언어로 랩 형식으로 공연을 할 기회가 주어졌는데

그 자리에 참석했던 세네갈 출신의 유명한 가수인 유수 은도르씨가

그의 탈렌트에 큰 감동을 받고, 함께 Building Brideges 라는 음반을 제작하면서

그의 커리어가 시작되었다.

 

그렇게 음악계에 발을 들여 놓은 그는

재즈음악의 산실같은 몬트리올 재즈 페스티발과 핼리팩스 팝스 행사에 초청가수로 활약을 하게 되었고,

2005년에는 유명한 프로듀서인 Jarvis Church 와 그의 첫 음반인

The Dusty Foot Philosopher를 제작했는데 많은 사람들에게 그를 소개하는 계기가 되었다.

그 인기로  이 음반은 2006년에는 캐나다의 그래미 상인 Juno Award(주노 상) 시상식에서

Rap Recoring of the Year 상을 받기도 했고,

2007년에는 영국의 BBC Radio에서 주는 세계음악 신인상 격인

(World Music in the newcomer category)을 수상했다.

 

그리고 올해 4월 18일에 열린 2009년도 주노 시상식에서

그의 Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year을 수상하면서

명실공히 캐나다에서 최고의 가수임을 인정 받았다.

 

이렇게 동부 아프리카의 민속음악과 랩을 잘 조화 된 노래로

사랑을 받던 그의 리믹스한 싱글인 Wavin' Flag 노래가

코카콜라 회사의 월드컵 축구 주제가로 선정이 되면서

그와 그의 노래가 이제는 전 세계에 널리 알려지는 것은 떼 놓은 당상이다.

 

 

쉽고 간단한 멜로디와

명쾌한 가벼운 리듬

그리고 역시 간단한 언어로 쓰여졌지만

심오한 삶과 인생의 철학이 묻어 나는

은근히 중독성이 강한

이 노래의 리듬을 타고 가볍게 춥을 추면서 

함께 감상 해 보실까요...

참고로 이 노래는 얼마 전 아이티에서 발생한 강진으로

생긴 많은 피해자를 위해서 가진 모금회 공연에서

캐나다의 최고 인기의 가수들과 많은 젊은이들이 한 자리에서 참석해서

이 노래를 주제가로 열창된 노래이기도 하다.
