동방정교회 교회음악 합창공연-O Gladsome Light Choral Concert

 

2015-16년 시즌 첫 합창공연이

11월 7일 토요일 저녁에 시내에 위치한

유서깊은 맥두글 장로교회에서 열렸습니다.

이날 합창공연의 레파토리 전곡은

동방정교회의 예식에 자주 사용되는 기도문을

반주없이 아카펠라 형식으로 아름다운 인간의 목소리로

주님과 성모님, 그리고 성인들을 기리는 성곡을 무대에 올렸습니다.

 

영어 가사로 된 두곡을 제외하고, 모든 곡은 러시아 어와 우크라이나어로 연주되었는데,

어려운 러시안 발음때문에 처음엔 고충이 많았는데,

공연날짜에 가까워지면서, 가사의 진정한 의미를 제대로 표현할 수 있을만큼

편하게 기도문을 뜻을 제대로 실어서 주옥같은 멜로디로 부를 수 있어서 뿌듯한 공연무대였다.

 

 

 

1부에서는 우선 로만 후르코(Roman Hurko) 작곡의

Svite tykhyi (Tranquil Light) 곡울 두 합창단이 함께 공연을 시작해서

이어서 맥스밀리안 슈타인베르크의 수난주일 op. 13 번 중에

3악장 Chertokh Tvoi (Thy Bridal Chamber)와

8악장 Razvoinyka blagorazumnago (The Wise Thief) 로 이어졌습니다.

 

이어서 바로크 시대에 활동했던 쥬세피 사르티 곡의

The Liturgy of Presantified Gifts 곡에서

Nyne sily nebesnyia (Now the Powers of Heaven)을 불러서

청중들에게 천상의 화음을 선사했습니다.

 

 

카펠라 키리에 앙상블만의 노래로 3곡을 공연하는 모습...

 

카펠라 키리에 체임버 앙상블은 주로 교회음악을 아카펠라로 공연을 주로 하는데

이번 공연에 내가 활동하는 RES 합창단과 함께 무대에 섰다.

 

(이번 공연을 CD 로 만드는 작업때문에  교회 여기 저기에 설치된 마이크들 중에

한가운데 제일 큰 마이크가 버티고 있어서 사진의 모양새가 영 맘에 들지 않는다.)

 

 

 

1부 마지막 순서인 드미트로 보르트니안스키 작의

Pryidite vospoyim liudiye(Come, O people, Let us Praise in Song)을 공연하고

청중들의 기립박수에 인사를 하는 지휘자 라츨라프 박사(왼편 앞)과 합창단원들..

 

 

 

2부 공연

 

더블 4부 혼성 합창곡을 위해서 왼편에서 오른편으로 자리를 옮겨서 2부 곡을 시작하기 직전에...

 

2부 무대는 보르트니안스키 작의 Kheruvymska pisnya(Cherubic Hymn) No, 7 으로 시작했습니다.

왼편 앞줄에 휠체어에 타고 있는 단원은 캐더린으로,

희귀병으로 점점 몸이 마미되어서, 전 자동 휠체어에 몸을 의지하고 살고 있지만,

다행히 아름다운 목소리는 여전히 지니고 있어서, 지금 5년째 합창단에서

많은 단원들의 배려와 격려로 함께 노래를 부르고 있는 소프라노이다.

 

 

 

다음 레파토리인 스테쳉코 작의 Blahoslovy dushe Moya, Hospoda

(Bless the Lord, O My Soul)을 부른 뒤에

청중들에게 인사를 하는 지휘자와 단원들...

 

 

이날 공연을 보러 온 막내딸이 똑딱이 폰으로 공연 모습을 담아 주었다.

 

 

카펠라 키리에 합창단의 지휘자인 멜라니 터전 씨가 청중들에게

합창단 소개와 곡을 소개하고 있다. (오른편 앞)

그녀는 두달 전에 갑자기 척추 수술을 하는 바람에 한달 내내 운신을 못하다가

10월이 되어서야 외출을 하기 시작해서, 많은 사람들의 우려를 물리치고

목이 아직 성치 않은데도 이날 5곡을 지휘할 수 있어서 아주 뿌듯해 했다.

 

 

예정된 레퍼토리를 끝내고 합창단원들을 청중들에게 인사를 시키는 멜라니...

 

 

멜라니씨는 2000년도에 당시 알버타 대학교 음대 대학원에서

라츨라프 교수의 제자로 우리 합창단의 보조 지휘자로 1년간 역임을 한 적이 있기도 하다.

그래서 스승과 제자가 함께 한 무대여서 의미가 큰 연주회가 되었다.

청중들의 우뢰같은 기립박수를 받고 함께 손을 잡고 청중들에게 인사를 하는 두 지휘자들과 함창단원들..

 

 

두 지휘자들에게 꽃다발과 선물이 증정되고,

지난 8주동안 어려운 러시아어로 아름다운 성가곡을 연습해서

무대에 올린 올해 첫 합창공연을 성공리에 마쳤습니다.

첫 공연을 마치자 마자, 숨을 돌릴 틈도 없이 바로

앞으로 4주 후에 연례행사로 50여년간 매년 크리스마스에 공연되는

헨델 작곡의 오라토리오 메시야 연습이 내일부터 시작이 됩니다.

 

개인적으로 전곡을 적어도 100번 이상 공연한 메시아 작품임에도 불구하고

늘 감동을 안겨다 주고, 노래를 하는 기쁨이 무엇인지 알려 주는 소중한 작품이

올해는 어떤 지휘자가 어떤 해석으로 새롭게 무대에 올려 질지 가슴이 설레입니다.
