The Trees by Philip Larkin The trees are coming into leaf  Like something almost being said;  The recent buds relax and spread,  Their greenness is a kind of grief.  Is it that they are born again  And we grow old? No, they die too,  Their yearly trick of looking new  Is written down in rings of grain.  Yet still the unresting castles thresh  In fullgrown thickness every May.  Last year is dead, they seem to say,  Begin afresh, afresh, afresh. 한글번역: Nancy Helen Kim©

나무   필립 라킨   나무싹들이 이파리로 자라난다   마치 무엇인가 말을 건네듯이;   새 봉오리들은 나뭇잎으로 느긋하게 퍼져간다.   그 푸르름은 애도의 한 단면처럼.     다시 새롭게 시작해요, 새롭게, 새롭게.

note: 매 소절의 1행과 4행, 그리고 2행과 3행은 같은 rhyme 으로 마무리되어서

         천천히 소리내서 이 시를 감상하면, 시의 맛이 느껴진다.

        긴 동면에서 깨어난 나뭇들이 봄철에 시간을 다투듯이 일제히 봉우리를 터트리면서

        연두색의 새 이파리로 자라날 수 있는 생동감이 전해지는 이 운율의 묘미가

        한글 번역을 하면서 잃어버려서 내심 안타깝다.

우리 동네보다 남쪽에 위치한 동네에서는

이미 봄소식이 들려 오기 사작하는데

울 동네의 토요일 최저 기온은 영하 29도라는 일기예보 소식에

 밀려 드는 무력감과 짜증스러움을

봄 영시로 날려본다.
