Dear March, come in!
How glad I am!
I looked for you before.
Put down your hat —
You must have walked —
How out of breath you are!
Dear March, how are you?
And the rest?
Did you leave Nature well?
Oh, March, come right upstairs with me,
I have so much to tell!

사랑스러운  3월이여, 어서 오렴!

널 만나서 너무나 기쁘구나!

한동안 너를 찾아다녔단다.

모자는 벗어 내려놓으렴--

여기까지 먼 길을 걸어왔나 봐--

엄청 숨이 찬 걸 보니!

사랑스러운 3 월아, 그동안 잘 지냈어?

 

I got your letter, and the birds’;
The maples never knew
That you were coming, — I declare,
How red their faces grew!
But, March, forgive me —
And all those hills
You left for me to hue;
There was no purple suitable,
You took it all with you.

Who knocks? That April!
Lock the door!
I will not be pursued!
He stayed away a year, to call
When I am occupied.
But trifles look so trivial
As soon as you have come.

That blame is just as dear as praise

2020년 3월 앞마당

 

 

이 시는 초월주의/ Transcendentalism과

자연을 주제로 하고 있다.

이 시는 봄의 시작인 3월을 의인화한 것을 주제로 하고 있다.

시인은 3월을 손님에게 대하듯

사람만이 쓰는 모자를 벗어라고 한다.

그리고 3월과 즐거운 시간을 보내는 와중에

불청객 4월의 이른 출현에 못마땅해한다.

 

 

2024년 3월 3일 집 뒤 산책길

 

3월이 온 우리 동네는

여전히 영하 20도의 혹한에

수요일부터 내린 30 cm 내린 눈에 갇혔다.

 

2024년 3월 3일 

 

3월이 스스로 알아서 제 때 잘 찾아오긴 했지만,

2월이 순순하게 다음 타자에게 순순히 자리를 내주지 않고

어거지로 뻐팅기고 귀한 손님을 문전박대하느라

엉거주춤한 3월은, 고분고분하게 4월을 맞이해 주면 좋겠다.
