Diana Krall's Concert...

오늘 저녁 8시에 Jubilee Auditorium 에서

캐나다가 자랑하는 ,훌륭한 재즈 피아니스트이자, 작곡자겸

콘트라 알토의 낮은 목소리의 재즈 가수인 Diana Krall의 공연이 있었다.

 

2주전인 3월 31일에 출시된 브라질 분위기가 물씬 풍기는

음반 Quiet Nights의 프로모션도 곁들여진 공연은

이미 캐나다 순회공연을 시작해서 5월 14일의 밴쿠버의 공연으로 캐나다의

공연을 마치고 6월 5일부터 미국의 커네티컷의 Waterbury에서 시작해서

8월 30일까지 45회의 미국 순회 공연을 가질 예정이다.

 

그녀는 캐나다 BC 주의 작은 도시인 나나이모에사 1964년에 음악적인

분위기의 집에서 태어나서 4살 때부터 피아노를 배우기 시작했다.

처음에는 주로 클래식 음악을 연주하다가 차츰 재즈에 흥미를 느끼면서

15살때부터는 나나이모의 여러 식당에서 재즈음악을 연주하기 시작했다.

그녀가 17살때 밴쿠퍼 재즈 페스티발에 참가해서 두각을 나타내서

보스턴에 있는 버클리 음악대학으로 진학 할 수 있는 장학금을 받으면서

본격적으로 재즈 피아니스트 공부를 할 기회를 얻었다.

그러다가 유명한 베이스 연주자인 레이 브라운과 드러머인 제프 해밀턴의

설득으로 로스엔젤리스로 건너가서 유명한 재즈 피아니스트인 지미 라울스부터

재즈 피아노를 사사 받던 중에 노래도 불러 보라는 권고로 뒤늦게 노래를

시작하기 해서 현재 재즈의 여왕으로  세계의 무대에 서고 있다.

오늘 저녁도 객석을 빽빽히 채운 뜨거운 열기의 무대 위에서

그녀의 트레이드 마크인 콘트라 알토의 목소리와 (Peggy Lee 와

Rosemary Clooney의 목소리가 환상적으로 조합된 소리), 어려서부터 다져온

쿨래식 피아노 솜씨를 바탕으로 천부적인 소질로 잘 다듬어진

깔끔한 피아노 연주와 좋은 화음으로 그녀를 더욱 빗내준 연주자들은

수많은 청중을 완전하게 매료시켰다.

 

이렇게 인기절정에 있는 그녀지만 2003년에 영국가수인 엘비스 코스텔로와

결혼해서 2006년 12월에 두 남자 쌍둥이의 엄마와 아내로서 더 만족을 느끼고

산다는 그녀는 심플하고  down-to-earth 한 삶을 조용히 살고 있다.

 

한동안 그녀의 마법에 걸려서 The Boy(Girl) from Ipanema를 흥얼 흥얼거리면서

지낼 것 같다... 

(꿈도 야물딱지게 브라질의 리오의 정열적인 Seductress를 꿈꾸면서...)

 

Krall was born into a musical family in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. She began learning the piano at the age of four. In high school, she started playing in a small jazz group. When she was 15 she started playing regularly in several Nanaimo restaurants.

At age seventeen she won a scholarship from the Vancoucover International Jazz Festival to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston,  In Nanaimo her playing attracted the attention of famed bass player Ray Brown and drummer Jeff Hamilton. After hearing her play, Brown and Hamilton persuaded Krall to move to Los Angeles, and study with pianist Jimmy Rowles, with whom she began to sing. This also brought her into contact with influential teachers and producers. In 1990, Krall relocated to New York.

Her father Jim Krall's large record collection helped to expose the young Krall to jazz legends. Diana lost her mother Adella to multiple myeloma in 2002, within months of also losing her mentors Ray Brown and Rosemary Clooney. Diana's only sibling, Michelle, a former member of the RCMP, actively supports her older sister's career.

Krall and British musician Elvis Costello were married on December 6,  2003 at Elton John's estate outside London. Their twin sons Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James, were born December 6, 2009zo in New York City.
