공연2부에 연주한 포레의 레퀴엠 & Rememberance Day 모습들

 

 2013년 11월 11일  캐나다의 현충일인 Rememberance Day 에

Winspear Centre of Music의 무대에서 2013-14 시즌 첫 공연을 마치고,

관객들의 기립박수를 받으면서....

우리 합창단은 공연을 끝낸 후에 리셉션을 열고

단원들과 단원들의 가족과 친지,

그리고 오케스트라 단원들과 함께 자축파티를 열어왔다.

리셉션의 모든 음식은 음식 솜씨가 좋은 단원들이 직접 집에서 준비하고 만든

다양하고 맛좋은 음식들이 푸짐하게 상에 올려져셔

늘 리셉션이 공연만큼 인기와 관심이 높다.

(실제로 복덩이 아들은 공연보다는 리셉션때문에 연주회에 참가한다고 선언했다.)

Rememberance Day 기념식엔  늘 bagpipe가 등장해서 전쟁에서 희생된 영혼들을 위해서 추모곡이 연주된다.

리셉션 중 베이스 단원의 부인인 마르고 씨가 다른 도시에서 다른 기념식에서 연주를 마치자마자

먼 길을 달려와서 애잔하기도 하고 힘찬 곡들을 메들리로 들려 주었다.

 

한쪽엔 단원들과 지인들이 길게 줄을 서서 음식을 들고 있는 모습이 보인다.

 

 

합창단의 지휘자로 30여년을 한결같이 무보수로 수고하시는 Ratzlaff 박사(가운데)님과

단원들과 지인들이 마르고의 백파이프 연주를 경청하고 있다.

 

 

 

공연이 무대에 올려진 날은 캐나다의 현충일 Rememberance Day 기념식 행사가

캐나다 전역에서 정확하게 오전 11시에 거행되었는데

합창 공연 2부에 연주한 레퀴엠 전곡을 조용히 감상 해 보세요.

 

 

작곡가: 가브리엘 포레(Gabriel Faure)

 

 

레퀘엠을 작곡한 포레는 1845년 5월 12일에 프랑스 남부에 위치한 피레네에서 태어났다.

어릴때부터 음악적 재능이 돋보였고, 고등학생 시절부터 파리에 있는 니더마이어 음악학교(Niedermeyer School)에서

오르갠, 피아노 그리고 합창음악을 전공했다.  유명한 프랑스의 작곡가 생상도 그의 스승이었다.

 

음악 학교에서 졸업한 후에 그는 파리의 주요한 성당의 오르개니스트와 성가대 지휘자로 일을 하다가,

1877년에 당시 파리의 마들레느(the Madeleine church) 성당에서 성가 대 지휘를 맡고 있던 생상을

이어 받아서 지휘자와 오르개니스트로 시작해서 거의 20년간 이 성당에 남아서 활동을 했다.

아울러 포레는 파리 콘서바토아{ the Paris Conservatoire)에서 작곡교수로도 일을 했는데

1905년에는 이 콘서바토아의 학장이 되었다.

그의 제자로는 모리스 라벨과 나디아 불랑제가 있다.

 

이렇게 포레는 세계적으로 유명한 작곡가와 프랑스를 대표하는 음악가로 확실하게 자리매김을 한지

얼마되지 않아서, 안타깝게도 점점 청력을 잃어가면서, 그의 작곡활동도 현저하게 줄어들었다.

그는 1924년 11월 24일에 파리에서 79세로 세상을 떠났다. 

 

 

레퀴엠(Requiem in D minor, Op.48)

레퀴엠은 죽은자를 위해서 올리는 캐톨릭 미사의 세팅에 준해서 작곡된 작품을 일컫는데,

이 작품은 1887년에서 1990년 사이에 작곡이 되었다.

브람스, 베토벤, 웨버등의 레퀴엠처럼 대부분의 잘 알려진 레퀴엠은 스케일이 큰 대작인데 비해서

포레의 레퀴엠은 약 35-40분간의 비교적 짧은 작품으로 소프라노와 바리톤 두명의 솔로이스트,

4부 합창단, 오케스트라 와 오르갠을 위해서 쓰여졌다.

이 작품은 일곱 파트로 이루어졌고, 아마도 제일 유명한 곡은 소프라노 솔로곡인 피에 예수(Pie Jesu)일 것이다.

이 작품의 초연은 1888년에 포레가 몸담았던 파리의 마들레느 성당(La Madeleine, Paris)에서 가졌다.

Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Chorus
