이번 주부터 아침저녁으로 영하로 기온이 떨어지면서

확연하게 초겨울로 접어든 것 같아서 벌써 옷깃을 여미게 된다.

매일 두 세편씩 읽는 시 중에서 요즘 절기와 걸맞은 제목의 시를 다시 만나서

새삼스럽게 매 연에 등장하는 라임도 좋고, 리듬감도 있어서

소리내서 읽는 재미가 솔솔 한 이 재미난 시를 공유해 봅니다.

 

아울러 시 전체가 영어의 숙어/idioms 로 쓰인 것이 특색인데

이참에 영어 표현법을 배워 보는 것도 도움이 될 것 같아요.

hanky-panky, hot toddy,

against hope, pay the piper,
liar liar pants on fire,
high and dry, shoo-fly pie,

fiddle-faddle, fit as a fiddle,

시인 샤론 브라이언은 미국 유타주의 솔트 레이크 시티에서 태어나서

유타 대학교에서 철학 학사와 코넬 대학교에서 문화인류학 석사 학위

그리고 아이오와 대학교에서 미술학 석사학위를 획득했다.

 

그녀는 Salt Air (1983), Objects of Affection (1987), Flying Blind (1996), 

그리고 Sharp Stars (2009) 4권의 시집을 출판했다.

아울러 그녀는 두 문학잡지의 편집장을 역임했으며,

커네티컷 대학교와 다트머스 대학교의 교수직을 맡고 있다.
