[이탈리아 피렌체13]두오모 대성당 박물관 3편/브루넬레스키의 돔 디자인과 공구들

 

 

1418년부터 두오모 성당 건립위원회는 

성당의 지붕 돔(두오모)을 덮어서 완성해야 하는 문제에 봉착했다.

이들은 두오모 대성당의 복잡한 구조와

탈렌티/Talenti가 디자인해서 완공된 팔각형의 지붕을

아름다울 뿐 아니라 안전한 디자인을 찾기 위해서

당시로서는 이 어려운 작업을 위해서

다수의 이탈리아의 유명한 건축가들을 불러서 자문을 구했다.

 

1418년과 1419년에 초청된

22명의 유명한 건축가들이 제출한 디자인 중에서

1420년에 필리포 브루넬레스키가 최종 선정되었다.

팔각형 모양의 돔의 바깥지름은 54.8 미터이고

안쪽 지름은 45.5 미터에 달하며,,

여덟 개의 돛 모양의 이중 껍질로 이루어졌으며,

이 껍질들은 24개의 수직 뼈대와

10개의 수평 뼈대로 고정되었다.

 

이 대단한 구조는 돔의 외부와 내부를 이어 줄뿐 아니라,

중간의 공간을 이용해서 돔 내부를 이동하는 것도 가능했으며,

아울러 뼈대끼리 저항력도 높아서 아주 안정된 구조이기도 했다.

 

이는 브루넬레스키가 수학과 역학에 대한 이해도가 높았기에 가능했고,

복잡한 구조의 돔을 제작하기 위해서

그는 직접 다양한 도구와 공구들도 발명학 제작했다.

 

브루넬레스키의 돔(두오모)은 그의 동료는 물론 

유럽 전체와 더 먼 지역에서도 완공 직후, 감탄과 존경을 금치 못했다.

그 후에도 유럽의 촉망받는 건축가들이 이 돔의 디자인과

건축 기법과 공정을 배우는 건축물로 자리 잡았다.

2층 갤러리에 전시된 작품들

 

 

 

이 세 동상은 1589년에 페르디난도 대공작 1세와

로레인의 크리스틴 공주의 혼배미사 행사를 위해서

두오모 성당 앞에 제작된 특별한 임시 파사드에 전시되었던

동상들로, 박물관에 소장된 것은 복제품이다.

오리지널 동상들은 두오모 성당 내 북쪽 트리뷴에 있다.
